Door to Door solar sales often lead to poor outcomes.

Door to Door solar sales often lead to poor outcomes.

Some solar companies employ door to door solar sales marketing strategy to spread their message out to non- solar homeowners. Not all solar companies are the same, and not all companies sell fake products. But it isn’t very easy to find out which one is good and which isn’t.

Many cases have been reported in Australia where the door to door salespersons targeted vulnerable, pensioners interested in solar. They sold them low-quality solar modules at high prices. The persuasive salespersons employed by such companies come uninvited and make you feel like you are missing out on a great opportunity. The deals they present are sound hard to resist. They also put pressure on signing the agreement straight away.

It is crucial to spread awareness of these types of scams so that you can protect yourself if something like this happens to you.

Some general recommendations to follow are:

1. As per law, you can demand a salesperson’s ID with his/her name, business details, and street address on it.

2. Do not feel pressured to sign the deal or pay any amount on the spot.

3. Do not get lured by their sales tactics like you will get an extra discount or rebate if you book right away.

4. If it is too good to be true, then it actually is.

5. Check whether the retailer is CEC approved or not.
