Every day we get a lot of queries regarding solar power systems, and we try to answers all of them. There are some common questions which we want to answer so that our customers can get clarity.
Following are a few common questions with their answers:
How does the Solar Power system work?
If you wonder how solar panels supply electricity to your home or property. Then you have come to the right place to know the working of the solar power system in simple words.
1. Solar panels convert sunshine into electricity. Solar panels are made up of photovoltaic cells. When light falls on these cells during the day, it gets converted into Direct Current.
2. But Direct Current (DC) can’t be used in homes, so it needs to be converted into Alternating current (AC). So, an inverter is a very important component of this process. It converts DC to AC to power home appliances.
3. Now from Inverter, the electricity flows into your home through an electrical service panel to run your electrical appliances.
4. Solar panels usually produce more electricity and excess power can be stored in the storage battery or it can also be directed to the company’s electricity grid for which you will get the credit.
What is the difference between Gross or Net Feed-in Tariff?
The feed-in tariff is the fixed price which the renewable energy producers get for each unit of electricity produced and fed into the grid. There are 2 types of solar feed-in tariffs – Gross feed-in tariff and net feed-in tariff.
You can get a Gross feed-in tariff if you feed all the power produced by your solar power system directly into the grid without consuming any part of it at your home. Instead, for your home electricity consumption, you are dependent on the grid. In short, you will be paid for the gross amount of power you fed into the grid and you will be charged for grid electricity consumption.
However, if the power produced by your rooftop solar power system is directed to your home meter first to meet the electrical needs of your home or property and then if more power is being produced in relation to its usage, the excess power is exported to the grid. In short, the net feed-in tariff is the difference between the power fed into the grid and the power drawn out from the grid.
Do solar panels need cleaning?
To expect maximum output from solar panels, they need to be kept clean of bird poop, dirt and dust. We advise cleaning the panels periodically, this way less effort would be required to clean and dust would not stick to the panels. Rainfall also cleans the panels on its own. What is Solar Panel Efficiency?
Solar Panel Efficiency is the ability of the panel to convert sunlight into electricity. For example, if two panels of the same physical size but different efficiency rating are placed under the same amount of sunlight for the same duration of time, then the panel with a higher efficiency rating would produce more power compared to the one with less efficiency rating. As we know panels are made up of a number of Photovoltaic cells which actually convert the sunlight falling on them into electricity. The amount of electricity produced by them in turn depends upon the cell’s composition, electrical configuration, surrounding components and more. Click here to read more.
