Beware of poor quality of solar panels

Beware of poor quality of solar panels

With rising competition in the solar market, many new solar panel manufacturers produce poor quality of solar panels. They just produce a few good quality panels just to pass industry standards.

In 2017, CEC conducted panel testing to evaluate the quality of solar panels and found that :

78% were underpowered, which means they were not producing the wattage they were rated for, and
45% had substituted components, which means either different or degraded components were used in the making of panels to what manufacturers claimed they were made from.
Over 20 microcracks were found per panel, which is a significant reason for panel failure in the long run.

Additionally, good quality solar panels should have zero micro-cracks.

What can be done in this situation?

Blind purchase of panels should be made periodically for testing the quality of solar panels. If a manufacturer is found guilty for supplying panels that do not meet the standard approved by CEC, then that manufacturer should be boycotted for sale in Austalia as a penalty.
